Charles Mason Remey
Second Guardian of the Cause of God
Charles Mason Remey, appointed by Shoghi Effendi as Hand of the Cause, and as the President of the embryonic Universal House of Justice (known as the "International Bahá'í Council"), his accession to the office of the Guardianship occurred automatically upon the death of Shoghi Effendi.
Unfortunately, the Hands of the Cause of God at the time of Shoghi Effendi's death, did not accept Mason Remey's appointment. Instead, they seized control over the affairs of the Faith and expelled Mason Remey, thereby establishing the Most Great Violation of the Covenant of Bahá'u'lláh.
